A recent compilation of the Game of The Year awards has now tallied Elden Ring with more awards than The Last of Us 2.

Elden Ring has had quite the year in 2022. The game was very well received, gaining a plethora of accolades from the media. A recent tracking project posted on Resetera has now totalled just how many outlets have awarded the Action-RPG with a GOTY title. The award tracker which is still in progress has crowned Elden Ring with a staggering 332 outlets with overall Game of the Year. This includes the likes of award shows such as The Game Awards, as well as news outlets that have rated the game. It now has more awards than the previous most wins which was The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020.

According to dedicated ResetEra https://www.resetera.com/threads/2022-video-game-awards-season-tracking-and-discussion-thread-latest-more-than-400-awards-tracked.651771/ researchers, who have compiled Elden Ring's total Game of the Year awards, and deduced that FromSoftware's latest currently sits at a staggering 324 wins. That officially beats The Last of Us Part 2's awards, which totalled 322 back in 2020.

Taking a slightly deeper look at things, Elden Ring appears to have won a grand total of 281 Game of the Year awards from media outlets Additionally, the action-RPG took home 43 awards from polls voted on by audiences rather than media outlets. All told, that's 324 awards.

Interestingly enough, The Last of Us 2 took home more reader's choice awards around two years ago with 108 awards bagged from audiences. Media outlet Game of the Year awards totalled 195 for Naughty Dog's sequel though, ultimately putting it well below Elden Ring in that category at least.

Elden Ring looks to have absolutely dominated Game of the Year voting around the world for 2022, leaving God of War Ragnarok in the dust at 74 total awards. The Last of Us 2 performed a similar feat a few years ago, with Supergiant's fantastic Hades in second place with 64 Game of the Year awards.

Elden Ring looks to be racking up trophies left and right, and not slowing down anytime soon. Before the end of 2022 FromSoftware releases PVP update which added the challenging Colosseum. This mode has up to six players duke it out in duels, free-for-alls, and team fights. You can even bring in summons using Spirit Ashes.

2023 is just beginning but GOTY for this year will be hard to follow after Elden Ring’s success. Previously President & CEO of Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc., Yasuo Miyakawa has expressed interest in “expanding beyond the realm of games” for the new IP. Exactly what that might mean is still unknown but leaves room for all sorts of mediums to go into. The title is also getting its own board game which smashed its Kickstarter goal tenfold. Over 16.6 million units worldwide just goes to show the major strides the game has made.
